We mourn the passing of Karen Hitchcock, the first woman to serve as president of the University at Albany, a champion of the arts, an enthusiastic supporter of the NYS Writers Institute and an active member of our Friends of Writing advisory group.
The Rockefeller Institute will partner with UAlbany’s NYS Writers Institute to complete memoir of McCall, chair emeritus of SUNY
“I am honored that Carl McCall asked me to work with him on his memoir. He has a remarkable story to share and I look forward to helping him tell it,” Paul Grondahl said. “It is a privilege for the New York State Writers Institute at UAlbany to partner with the Rockefeller Institute on this important project. Carl’s memoir will offer a personal portrait of a dedicated public servant, whose distinguished career will inspire the next generation of diverse leaders in the Empire State.” Read more.

"With great UAlbany collaboration and community excitement, we pulled off an amazing inaugural Albany Book Festival in 2018. We are committed to making the second edition even better."

The third edition of Trolley, an online literary journal produced by the NYS Writers Institute at the University at Albany can be found at www.trolleyjournal.com.
Trolley's 20 contributors represent a cross-section of the audiences that fill seats at New York State Writers Institute events: community members of all ages, authors, University at Albany faculty, staff, and students. Their essays praise the works of iconic writers and poets -- Tolstoy, Orwell, Mary Oliver, Langston Hughes, J.D. Salinger -- as well as more recent writers -- R.h. Sin, Rupi Kaur and Courtney Peppernell -- whose words make a lasting connection.
