Lois Lowry, one of the all-time greatest writers of fiction for young people, will present her new novel, Building 903 (2026), the story of a brother and sister struggling to survive in a near-future America ruled by a narcissistic dictator who has outlawed books and basic human freedoms.

 

A two-time Newbery Medal winner and author of more than 30 books, Lowry is known for work that explores tyranny, racism, terminal illness, murder and the Holocaust. She is best-known for two widely acclaimed classics of YA literature, The Giver (1993), about a dystopian world of “sameness,” in which strong emotions are suppressed by the prescription of daily pills; and Number the Stars (1989), a historical novel about a Jewish family in Nazi-occupied Denmark.
