A message from our director

Paul Grondahl and our fall semester interns Max Weissman (Communications and Journalism, '22) and Hayley Gorman (English, '22).

Dear Friends of the Writers Institute:

It has been a joy to see your faces again, even behind masks, at our in-person author events this fall. The gratitude has been palpable. The smiles made your eyes twinkle. We are appreciative.

We wanted to take a moment to thank you for your kind and generous support throughout 2021 and to wish you and your family a healthy and joyful holiday season. We hope you will consider including the NYS Writers Institute in your year-end donation plans.

We can all use positive news these days and here are exciting new benchmarks the Writers Institute reached this year, despite ongoing challenges of the pandemic.

  • We posted 91 new videos and generated 6.2 million impressions and more than 364,000 views on our YouTube channel.

  • We published 203 posts on our Writers Institute blog The Conversation and added 46% more traffic to our www.nyswritersinstitute.org web site.

  • We published our online literary journal Trolley earlier this month, featuring essays, poems, and flash fiction from 77 writers, including more than two dozen UAlbany students and faculty.

  • We launched a Writers Institute TikTok channel in the fall, which has generated thousands of views.

  • We hosted the 4th annual Albany Book Festival in the fall and Albany Film Festival in the spring.

We hope that you will consider making a donation online at this secure link to support vital Writers Institute programming as we celebrate the beauty of literature and address pressing issues of the moment with enlightening conversations. You can choose how to designate your tax-deductible gift.

You can also mail your check, made out to The University at Albany Foundation, to the following address:

The UAlbany Foundation

PO Box 761

Albany, NY 12201

Please indicate in the check memo that your gift is for the NYS Writers Institute.

We wish you a happy, healthy, safe, and wonderful New Year. We’ll see you in 2022!

Paul Grondahl, Director, NYS Writers Institute
