"There is a community that has taken root here, a place of welcome for people often shunned by society and broken by loneliness and loss; addiction and disease; poverty and unemployment; mental illness and life’s grinding hardships."

Paul Grondahl, Albany Times Union, 2020

In the past five years five days, with federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits currently suspended, food pantries across the country are seeing unprecedented demand. Across our region, food pantries are reporting record numbers of first-time visitors.

During Wednesday’s all-day (noon to 8 p.m.) marathon reading of William Kennedy’s 1975 novel Legs, we will be collecting cash donations to benefit the Sacred Heart Food Pantry, located at Kennedy’s former parish in North Albany.

We invite you to stop by — even if only for a few minutes — to drop off a donation and show your support.

Wednesday, November 5

Noon to 8 p.m.

Albany Distilling Company

75 Livingston Avenue, Albany, NY 12207

Raise a glass to William Kennedy, Writers Institute founder and Albany’s greatest storyteller, and help us support a community in need.

Whether you come to listen, read a passage, or contribute to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry, your presence will make a difference.
