Kudos to our friend, poet and photographer Dan Wilcox, who pulled this year's event together.

Further afield

Long Night of the Poets, a celebration of poetry and music featuring 30 artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Algeria, India, the United States and other nations, was broadcast today in South Africa.

“Music and poetry have always had a symbiotic relationship, the melody in the words and the words in the melody both spoken and unspoken," show curator and musician Viwe Mkizwan said in a story published at Independent Online, a news and entertainment site in South Africa. "The range of poets is phenomenal, with powerful messages and impact from spoken word to rap, to dub poetry,”

A note on the first poet in the video. Vangile Gantsho author of two poetry collections: Undressing in front of the window (2015) and red cotton (2018), switches to English at the 2:33 mark. red cotton is available for purchase at the local, independent Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza: https://www.bhny.com/book/9780639946504
