A live performance of the hit public radio and podcast series featuring readings of classic and new works of short fiction by acclaimed actors.

The UAlbany performance will feature a special selection of brand-new work by Carmen Maria Machado, Jess Walter, Lauren Groff, Etgar Keret and more. Actors Patricia Kalember ("The Tick"), Rita Wolf "The American Pilot") and Bhavesh Patel ("The Good Wife") bring to life stories of revenge-seeking children, parties in the face of apocalypse and finding love on the side of a building.

Selected Shorts is produced by Symphony Space in New York City and broadcast on more than 150 stations to about 300,000 listeners around the country. The Selected Shorts podcast consistently ranks as one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes, with more than 100,000 downloads each week.

ABOUT THE ACTORS

Born in Schenectady, Patricia Kalember’s stage credits include The White Card, The Nerd, Losing Louie, Y2k, Don’t Dress for Dinner, Sea of Tranquility, Loose Knit and From Above. She played the role of Gloria Steinem in Gloria: A Life in New York and Boston. She received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for her role in the original cast of The Foreigner. On television, Kalember starred in Sisters and has had recurring roles on The Tick, Power and thirtysomething. Other television credits include Law & Order: SVU, Power, Orange Is the New Black, Gossip Girl, Blue Bloods, Allegiance, Madam Secretary, Veep, The Good Wife and the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge. Her numerous films include Jacob’s Ladder, Path to War, A Far Off Place, Signs, Rabbit Hole, The Company Men, Limitless, Girl Most Likely and Run All Night.

Rita Wolf

Rita Wolf most recently appeared in Out of Time with the National Asian American Theatre Company at The Public Theater. She was also featured in What Happened? The Michaels Abroad, written and directed by Richard Nelson at the Frederick Loewe Theater at Hunter College, and The Michaels at The Public. Additional theater credits include An Ordinary Muslim at The New York Theatre Workshop, The American Pilot at the Manhattan Theatre Club, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award, and the premiere of Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul at New York Theatre Workshop and later at BAM.

Bhavesh Patel most recently appeared on Broadway in The Nap at MTC and Present Laughter, opposite Kevin Kline. Additional theater credits include War Horse and Hayden's Seven Last Words at Lincoln Center, Indian Ink at Roundabout and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Public's Shakespeare in the Park. Additionally, he has appeared at Second Stage, Classic Stage Company, Red Bull Theater and the New York Theatre Workshop. His television and film credits include Chicago PD, Law & Order SVU, New Amsterdam, Little America, Bull, The Blacklist, Jon Glazer Loves Gear, Madame Secretary, Mysteries of Laura, The Good Wife, The Sound of Silence, Gold, Wilding, Two Days in New York, James White, Maiden Heist, The Weekend and You Should Have the Body. Patel has been teaching as an adjunct in the Theatre Program at UAlbany since 2020 and is currently the voice and text coach for the Department of Music and Theatre’s production of Twelfth Night.
