Rakim performing on Juneteenth

Hip hop legend Rakim, who visited UAlbany and the Howe Branch of the Albany Public Library in October 2019, will reunite this Friday with his creative partner Eric B. to perform selections from their 1990 album Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em to mark the holiday of Juneteenth and the album's 30th Anniversary.

The virtual concert will be streamed live on Caffeine TV's The Leader Channel, 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 19. More at www.caffeine.tv/TheLeader

Rakim visited UAlbany to participate in The Creative Life conversation series in association with the publication of Sweat The Technique: Revelations on Creativity from the Lyrical Genius (2019). Part memoir, part writing guide, Sweat the Technique offers insight into how Rakim thinks about words, music, writing, and rhyming as it teaches writers of all levels how to hone their craft.

Created and produced by the UAlbany Performing Arts Center, University Art Museum, and NYS Writers Institute in collaboration with WAMC Northeast Public Radio, The Creative Life features leading figures from a variety of artistic disciplines in conversation about their creative inspirations, their craft and their careers. "Roundtable" host Joe Donahue conducts live on-stage interviews followed by a Q&A with the audience.

In addition to performances, this Friday's livestream will feature interviews with Eric B. & Rakim, as well as tributes from Ice T, LL Cool J, Chuck D, Cornel West, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Dapper Dan, Fat Joe, Fab 5 Freddy, and Jody Watley.
