Rick Reilly, one of America’s preeminent sportswriters and a member of the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame, is the author of the New York Times bestseller, Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump (2019).
Based on Reilly's own experiences with Trump as well as interviews with over 100 golf pros, amateurs, developers, and caddies, Commander in Cheat is a startling and at times hilarious indictment of Trump and his golf game. Reilly reveals how Trump cheats (sometimes with the help of his caddies and Secret Service agents), lies about his scores (the "Trump Bump"), tells whoppers about the rank of his courses and their worth (declaring that every one of them is worth $50 million), and tramples the etiquette of the game.

Reilly is renowned for his commentary at Sports Illustrated (1985-2007), particularly his back page column “The Life of Reilly,” and for his eight years at ESPN. He has been voted National Sportswriter of the Year 11 times by The National Sports Media Association (NSMA). He is also the winner of the Damon Runyon Award for Outstanding Contributions to Journalism. USA Today called him, "the closest thing sportswriting ever had to a rock star."
Other works
Reilly co-wrote the screenplay for "Leatherheads," a 2008 film directed by George Clooney, starring Clooney, Renée Zellweger and John Krasinski. He has written 13 books. His first novel, Missing Links, has been optioned for development as a feature film and he has co-authored books with Wayne Gretzky, Charles Barkley and sports announcer Marv Albert.
Reilly is the founder of the anti-malaria effort Nothing But Nets, which has raised over $60 million to hang mosquito nets over kids in Africa, where 2,000 children die every day of the disease. A partnership with the United Nations Foundation, every dollar goes to buying the nets.
